Freshfields has announced the appointment of Matthew O’Callaghan, Head of Freshfields' financial services practice in Asia, as the new Asia Managing Partner, succeeding Thomas Ng.

 

O’Callaghan specializes in financial transactions and provides comprehensive regulatory support and practical legal advice to banks, non-bank lenders, insurers, broker-dealers, fund managers, global investors, and fintech clients across the Asia-Pacific region.

 

Before joining Freshfields, O’Callaghan held positions at Clayton Utz, Freshfields, and Goldman Sachs. He rejoined the Freshfields Hong Kong office in 2019 as Head of its Asia financial services practice.

The appointment took effect on May 1, 2025.
