Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher (Gibson Dunn) has announced the hire of Nicholas Lingard, Managing Partner and Head of Asia International Arbitration at Freshfields’ Singapore office. He will serve as Co-Chair of Gibson Dunn’s Global International Arbitration Practice.
Nicholas Lingard focuses his practice on international arbitration and dispute resolution. He has represented multinational corporations, investors and sovereign states in complex commercial disputes, construction disputes and investment treaty arbitrations. His work spans major arbitral institutions including the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). He has acted as counsel in high-stakes investor-State disputes involving politically sensitive matters, as well as major litigation matters across the Indo-Pacific region.
Prior to joining Gibson Dunn, Lingard was a partner at Freshfields, where he served sequentially as Head of the firm’s Asia International Arbitration Practice and Managing Partner of its Singapore office. Earlier in his career, he practised at Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Mallesons, and clerked for the Chief Justice of Australia.
Lingard’s arrival marks Gibson Dunn’s third partner recruitment from Freshfields Singapore within the past year. His departure creates two vacant leadership roles at Freshfields Singapore: Managing Partner and Head of Asia International Arbitration. Freshfields Singapore’s remaining dispute resolution partners include Rohit Bhat and Samantha Tan.
